There are a number of memory foam brands on the market. They all started from the same concept but as with all things, the foam market had evolved throughout the years. Sensus memory foam is one of the more costly types of memory foams because of its high end quality. It has a density of 5 pounds per cubic foot and the pad should last at least 10 years.

This is where the evolution of the product becomes interesting. In the 1970’s scientists were called on to develop a means of protecting astronauts bodies from the jolting caused by launching and re entering the earths atmosphere. Stress to the spine and joints had to be avoided. They came up with visco-elastic foam; it was manufactured to be open cell that caused its large success. When pressure is applied the air moves from the cells to the ones next to them, when the pressure is reduced the air is allowed to return. But at this time they had developed a product that was fine for short term use, but as it displayed wear and tear so soon, they’ve reverted back to the original form. It took nearly 20 years before there were enough developments to make the product not only functional but also cost effective for consumers.

Because it is breathable it allows the airflow around the body thus reducing heat making for a more comfortable sleep. Since it’s suitable for breathing it does not encourage the growth of mold. Because the Sensus memory foam is in itself hypo allergenic and does not aid mould growth, asthma and allergy sufferers have noted improvements in their conditions. Mattresses made out of the foam are also dust mite resistant. There are also no allergens present as with down pillows for instance. It is also very sensitive and allows the warmer areas to get softer than the cooler areas.

Of course we would all like the benefit of a more comfortable mattress not only for sleeping purposes but also health wise. Sensus memory foam makes mattress pads that go on top of your bed so you can have a more supportive bed. If your bed is just too firm and does not allow relief from pressure, adding a mattress pad to it could be very beneficial for your body.

For people that are confined to bed for a long period of time, a memory foam mattress will prevent bed sores. These are constant problems in the care of infirm patients and this mattress is a non allergenic form that can really help both patients and nurses. It is also used in the manufacture of shoe inserts to relieve pain in pressure points.
